Such a shame there are so many empty shops, it is always so busy & has a good atmosphere
It is quiet around the square but Northwich is being built up with the new Barons Quay built there. Hopefully Marks and Spencer will remain open as that would be a shame if it decided to pull out. They need to reduce rentals for shops in the town otherwise it will be filled with only charity shops!.
In the "used to be" bustling heart of northwich and surrounding area but since the new mayor has been incharge, we have suffered loss of many traditional and money earning shops due to the new Barons Quay development that was in place to hold many leading brand shops but now holds 4 and a cinema that I agree are all benefiting northwich but it is not as many as they promised. The prices of rent for a shop is going up and up until shops finally give in and shut down making way for a new block of apartments which was promised summer last year and still hasn't happened. Lovely city feeling when going through main streets and Barons Quay with lots of instrument players and magazine sellers along the streets but further in, there is just no shops. Wonderful Artisan market on the first Saturday of every month which is always very popular and gives it a city feel I, plenty of places to buy phone's. Recommend!
This shopping centre is unique in having the greatest ratio of closed down shops to those remaining open. When the BBC runs financial affairs news on the plight of the high street this is where the reporter needs to be.
